The Minister of Education, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, has assured the management of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) in Tamale of the government’s readiness to collaborate with school authorities to restore the girls’ dormitory destroyed by fire.

Mr Iddrisu said education remained the key to unlocking opportunities for the youth, stressing the urgency of rebuilding the dormitory to minimise disruption to academic work.
He gave the assurance on Friday when he visited the school to assess damage caused by a fire outbreak that gutted the female dormitory on January 28 at about 2:00 p.m.
The fire razed the one-storey building, which accommodates about 900 female students, and destroyed their personal belongings.
The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, assured the school community that the government would take all necessary steps to renovate the facility as quickly as possible.
He added that temporary accommodation arrangements were being put in place to cater for the displaced students.
Mr Iddrisu was accompanied by directors and officials from the Ministry of Education during the visit.
Speaking to journalists, Miss Mohammed Hamdia, the Assistant Girls’ Prefect, said the students had lost all their belongings in the fire.
She appealed to benevolent organisations, NGOs and individuals to assist the affected students with essential items.
The Headmaster of NOBISCO, Mr Alhassan Dokurugu, thanked the Minister and his delegation for visiting the school to assess the situation and appealed for swift government intervention.
He explained that the decision to send students home temporarily was taken in consultation with school management and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Mr Dokurugu added that plans were underway to relocate male students from their dormitory to the dining hall, while feeding arrangements would be made outside the dining facility due to space constraints.
He urged parents to remain patient as the school and government worked together to restore the dormitory to its original state.
