The Grassroots Advocacy Federation (GAF), a nationwide political advocacy organization , has paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with key stakeholders in the education sector.

According to the Federation, the visit was also to follow up on documents earlier submitted to the GES in December last year regarding the recruitment and posting of unemployed trained teachers across the country. During the meeting, GAF presented additional documents to support its call for urgent action to address teacher unemployment and gaps within the basic and secondary education system.

Speaking after the engagement, the leadership of GAF stressed that thousands of trained teachers remain unemployed despite persistent teacher shortages in many public schools, particularly in rural and underserved communities. The group noted that the situation continues to affect quality education delivery nationwide.

The Federation disclosed that it has formally petitioned the Director-General of the GES and is further calling on the Minister of Education, the Chief of Staff, the Vice President, and President John Dramani Mahama to collaborate with the management of the GES to facilitate the recruitment and posting of these unemployed teachers.

President of the Grassroots Advocacy Federation, Isaac Anane Mordzifah K. Gracious, who signed the petition, said the move forms part of the organisation’s broader mandate to advocate for the welfare of grassroots members and contribute meaningfully to national development through constructive dialogue.

He emphasised that GAF believes collaboration between government, education authorities, and advocacy groups is key to resolving challenges within the education sector. The Federation expressed optimism that its engagement with the GES would yield positive results and called on authorities to treat the matter with urgency in the interest of Ghanaian students and trained teachers awaiting posting.
