Former Ghana international Anthony Annan has been largely out of the public eye in recent years, but a rare sighting of the midfielder has now surfaced online, sparking excitement among fans.

Annan, who made his name as a combative and energetic central midfielder for the Black Stars, last played at the highest European levels during his time with Schalke 04, leaving the German club in 2014.

Since then, the 39-year-old has had a journeyman career, featuring for clubs including HJK Helsinki in Finland, Osasuna in Spain, Vitesse in the Netherlands, and most recently, TPS Turku in 2022.

In 2023, Annan moved to Germany’s lower leagues, signing for Arminia Lirich, where he has continued to ply his trade away from the spotlight. Despite his absence from mainstream football headlines, the Ghanaian midfielder has clearly remained active on the pitch.

The rare image that recently resurfaced shows Annan smiling and posing for a picture with a fan during a training session with his current club. The sight of the veteran midfielder in his training kit reminded fans of his tireless work rate and the vital role he played for Ghana during his prime.

Annan’s career may have drifted away from the European limelight, but for many supporters, seeing him back on the pitch, even in the lower leagues, is a welcome reminder of the midfielder who once patrolled the midfield for both club and country with relentless energy.
