Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has expressed immense pride in Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea following his appointment for the AFCON 2025 semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria.

Okraku hailed Laryea’s selection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as a clear endorsement of his quality and professionalism.

Speaking to Metro TV, Okraku described the appointment as a significant milestone for Laryea, emphasising both his skill and bravery during the high-stakes encounter.

“I’m super excited about him and for him,” Okraku said. “To be chosen, to be picked for that crucial semi-final game was a big statement of confidence by my CAF in his quality and ability.”

Despite CAF 2nd Vice President’s praise, Laryea’s performance drew intense scrutiny, particularly from Nigerian fans who accused him of bias and poor officiating following Nigeria’s penalty shootout defeat.

Social media was flooded with criticism, including coordinated reporting of Laryea’s accounts, fueled by perceived injustices and the historic football rivalry between the two nations.
