Kwesi Arthur has been sued by Glen Boateng and Ground Up for defamation Kwesi Arthur has been sued by Glen Boateng and Ground Up for defamation

In a fiery response to allegations made by popular Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur against his former record label, Ground Up Chale, and its CEO, Glen Boateng, the label has sued the rapper for defamation.

The lawsuit, filed on January 27, cites comments made by the rapper in a social media post on January 21, describing them as defamatory and libelous.

As a result, they are demanding GH¢10,000,000 in damages.

‘Ground Up’, Glen sue Kwesi Arthur for defamation

That said, here’s a breakdown of the suit

The suit was filed by Ground Up Chale (1st Plaintiff) and Glen Boateng (2nd Plaintiff) against Kwesi Arthur (Defendant).

It described Glen Boateng as someone who “has deliberately maintained an underrated public profile and largely stayed out of the public eye while working behind the scenes as one of the key influential figures behind the sound of the modern Ghanaian urban music.”

The suit further cited a lengthy social media post by Kwesi Arthur made on January 21, 2026, in which he claimed that the label was demanding $150,000 for the use of his images in an upcoming project and had stated that Glen Boateng was to blame if anything happened to him.

The suit further cited another post made by Kwesi Arthur on January 22, in which he stated, “Just leave me to put out my music.”

According to the suit, the comments could be interpreted by the public to mean that both Ground Up Chale and Glen Boateng were “violent,” “engaged in criminal conduct,” “are exploitative predators,” “engaged in modern day slavery,” and “are wicked cheats.”

The suit added that Kwesi Arthur’s comments were intended “to vilify and mischaracterise the Plaintiffs with imputations of criminality.”

The suit described Kwesi Arthur’s comments as “entirely false, malicious and without any factual bias, calculated solely to expose the Plaintiffs to public ridicule, contempt and scorn.”

The suit added that Kwesi Arthur’s remarks had “severely impacted the professional standings and business prospects of Ground Up Chale and Glen Boateng.

Matters to support their claim of defamation

Glen Boateng and Ground Up Chale stated that Kwesi Arthur had rather benefitted from their professional relationship, with him earning “over £91,000 in royalty distributions and the purchase in 2021 of a Mercedes-Benz GLC vehicle in the name of the Defendant, which vehicle remained with the Defendant after he parted ways with the Plaintiffs.”

The suit also claimed that Glen Boateng has been exposed to “emotional distress, trauma, and the threat of physical harm” from several of Kwesi Arthur’s fans.

What Glen Boateng and ‘Ground Up Chale’ are demanding

Immediate deletion of the posts made by Kwesi Arthur.

The publication of an “unqualified apology and an unreserved

apology” by Kwesi Arthur which must first be approved by Boateng and Ground Up Chale.

GH¢5,000,000 as damages for libel. GH¢2,000,000 as damages for economic harm and GH¢3,000,000 as aggravated and exemplary damages.
