Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has voiced optimism about the Black Stars’ World Cup prospects but raised a red flag over a growing injury list that could threaten their campaign in North America.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Kingston set a clear expectation for Otto Addo’s squad.

“For me, I don’t really expect anything more than for us to go through the group stage. I’ll be happy for us to go through the group stage,” he said.

His confidence stems from the team’s continuity, noting, “Otto Addo has been with these players for some time, and I am told that they now understand themselves.”

However, Kingston’s optimism is tempered by significant concern.

“My worry is that some of the players have picked up injuries,” he cautioned, identifying the fitness of key personnel as the decisive factor. “If Otto Addo gets these trusted players fit, then we can do something.”

The list of injured players causing concern includes several first-team regulars, such as West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus, Southampton’s Mohammed Salisu, Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey, and defenders Francis Abu and Abdul Mumin.

Ghana, drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, will be aiming to advance past the group stage for the first time since 2010. They begin their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17, before facing England in Boston and concluding against Croatia in Philadelphia.
