Antonio Conte has fired back at Diego Costa following the striker’s recent scathing comments about their time together at Chelsea.
Costa, speaking on John Obi Mikel’s podcast, described Conte as bitter, untrusting and responsible for his premature exit from Stamford Bridge.
The Italian coach, however, during an interview, appeared completely unbothered by the remarks, emphasising his focus on football and his accomplishments rather than personal attacks.
Conte highlighted the professional side of their relationship, pointing to the success they shared on the pitch and suggesting that much of Costa’s criticism stems from personal grievances rather than reality.
Diego Costa slams Antonio Conte in explosive rant
“Honestly, I’m not a person to lose energy reading what people say in the paper. I know very well that around football, there are intelligent people, clever people and stupid people, so I don’t waste my time reading intelligent people or stupid people,” Conte said.
He went on to remind fans of their shared achievement.
“Diego Costa played with me for one season, so I can talk about the football. I think we won the league together and he wanted to go away three times in the same season. I know this. After Chelsea, I don’t know what happened to him,” he added.
