Sunday’s CAF inter-club group stage action saw Zamalek drop points, while fellow former African champions Wydad AC maintained their 100 per cent win record.

A Confederation Cup group D encounter between Zamalek and Al Masry ended in a 0-0 draw at the Cairo International Stadium, leaving the two Egyptians teams placed second and first respectively in the standings.

Kaizer Chiefs remained third in the group D standings despite securing a 1-0 win over Zambian side Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia, where Pule Mmodi scored the only goal of the match to hand the South African giants the win.

Meanwhile, Wydad made it three successive wins in group B when they emerged as 1-0 winners over DR Congolese outfit Maniema Union, with Mohamed Moufid grabbing the Moroccan powerhouse’s winning goal in the 81st minute at the Stade Mohammed V.

At the Laurent Pokou Stadium, Olympic Safi moved up to second place in the group A standings after overcoming Ivorian club San Pedro 2-1 thanks to Sofian El Moudane’s winning goal and the Moroccan side are three points behind leaders, USM Alger of Algeria.

Two Champions League were played on Sunday, with DR Congo’s FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo edging out Algerian giants MC Alger 1-0 to move up to third place in the group C standings, courtesy of Michael Kimputu’s late goal at the Stade TP Mazembe.

In group D, Stade Malien claimed an impressive 2-0 win over Angolan champions Petro de Luanda at the Stade du 26 Mars and the victory elevated the Malian giants to the top of the standings, two points clear of second-placed Esperance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia.-
