Ghanaian musician Tony Dath has weighed in on the on-going banter between Kwesi Authur and his former label, ‘Ground Up Chale’.

Speaking on Angel FM, the musician said many artistes at the start of their careers are driven by hunger and desperation, which often leads them to sign contracts that later leave them trapped for greater portions of their careers.

“Hunger and desperation can make you sign a slave contract and regret later. Hunger can make someone tell you your career is going to be a seventy, thirty and yet you’d still accept. You’ll then work for someone for over 6 years, and you’ll have nothing out of your work” he said

‘I now understand why collaborations with Kwesi Arthur couldn’t happen’ – Kweku Flick

The artiste added that some record labels are also driven by selfishness and greed and therefore refuse to let go of artistes they helped build.

“Some of the labels are also hungry. They’ll be like I’ve helped the artiste to be this big, I won’t allow him to go. But we are all here to do our part and leave,” he explained.

Tony Dath further stated that while a label can benefit from an artiste it nurtures, it should also be willing to let the artiste go when the time comes to pave their own path.
