Maa Yaa, the widow of the late taxi driver Kwesi Dada who was allegedly shot dead by a policewoman on January 19, 2026, has broken her silence over her husband’s sudden death.

According to Maa Yaa, on the day of the incident, she bid farewell to her husband as she left for her shop while he went to check on his car.

Speaking to GhanaWeb journalist Victoria Kyei Baffour on January 22, 2026, she stated, “I was in the house with him on Monday and I told him I would be going to the store. He also told me he was going to check on his car. Around 4 p.m., I called him to ask whether we should leave some food for him but he told me we should eat.

“At about 8 p.m., I called him again to ask if they were not done with the car and he said they were almost done. So, I slept, and around 2 a.m., I heard my phone ringing.

“It was someone from our old house who said my husband had an issue at Tetegu Police Station and that we should come.”

She added, “When we got there, a police officer called me and asked me some questions. They told me my husband had been arrested and that we should come back at 8 a.m. in the morning to see him.

“In the morning, my brother called me and told me that my husband had been shot dead three times.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that it is investigating a fatal shooting incident involving a policewoman, which occurred on January 19, 2026, at Tetegu near Weija in the Greater Accra Region.

This was announced in a statement issued on January 20, 2026.

“The Ghana Police Service is investigating a shooting incident involving a policewoman that occurred on 19th January 2026 around the Tetegu area near Weija,” the statement said.

According to preliminary investigations, a policewoman allegedly shot the taxi driver following a confrontation.

“The driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi cab, was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival,” the statement added.

The police further disclosed that the policewoman was later hit by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene, sustaining injuries to her head and both legs.

“She is currently on admission receiving medical attention,” the statement noted.

The police also revealed that several exhibits were retrieved from the scene.

“Exhibits recovered include one live 9mm round, a magazine and one empty 9mm cartridge.”
