Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has acknowledged that resistance is inevitable as reforms aimed at the long-term development of Ghanaian sports take shape, insisting that opposition from some quarters will not derail the broader vision.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Ankrah noted that meaningful change often attracts pushback, especially when entrenched interests are challenged.

“Even though we are doing the right things for the long-term best interest of Ghana sports, we should not be surprised by resistance and opposition from a few associations,” he said.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah was appointed as the Director General of the NSA in March 2025, transitioning from a distinguished career in sports journalism into public administration.

Since assuming office, Ankrah has overseen efforts to reposition the NSA as a more efficient and forward-thinking institution, with a focus on governance, infrastructure, and athlete welfare.

His leadership comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to rebuild trust in sports administrators’ ability to manage public facilities.

Early signs of his tenure suggest an emphasis on reform, accountability, and inclusivity.

Despite the resistance he referenced, Ankrah remains confident that the changes being implemented will ultimately benefit Ghanaian sports, stressing that long-term progress must take precedence over short-term discomfort.
