The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has hailed the Teranga Lions following their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph.

He noted that he was impressed with the team’s performance throughout the tournament, highlighting that they did not resort to rough play but instead relied on possession-based, quality football to outwit their opponents.

President Diomaye emphasised that the team’s heroic display in such a chaotic final demonstrated their resilience and determination qualities that others must emulate to bring more glory to the nation.

“They did it heroically, they played beautiful football, they were incredibly fair and they were exemplary both on and off the field. We can only be proud of them,” he said.

The team led by captain Kalidou Koulibaly and star player Sadio Mane arrived at the Blaise Diagne International Airport with the AFCON trophy on the evening of Monday, January 19, 2026.

President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye received the players, the entire technical team and officials at the Presidential Palace to thank them for their services and putting smiles on the faces of the Senegalese people with their victory.
