Industry voices are urging DJs and music promoters to increase support for Ghanaian artistes in 2026 Industry voices are urging DJs and music promoters to increase support for Ghanaian artistes in 2026

Music analyst Joshua Agyei has called on radio presenters and DJs to reduce the number of foreign songs played on local airwaves in 2026 and give more attention to Ghanaian music.

Speaking in a discussion on Hitz FM on January 18, 2026, Joshua Agyei stated that he expects industry players to build on the efforts made in 2025 to promote local content, particularly within the music space.

According to him, Ghana has many quality gospel songs that deserve more exposure, and consistent airplay will help listeners develop a deeper appreciation for local music.

“In 2026, I expect the presenters and the DJs to do what they did in 2025. We should try as much as possible to cut down on foreign songs.

“We have good songs here. If we keep playing it, people will love it,” he said.

Joshua Agyei also expressed hope that more new artistes will emerge in 2026.

He added that he has interacted with several upcoming musicians who feel frustrated by the lack of response from producers and DJs.

He noted that while the concerns of these artistes are understandable, they must also take responsibility for their growth by remaining consistent.

“Again, I expect new artistes to show up in 2026. I’ve met a couple of them and they all keep complaining about producers and DJs not responding to them,” he shared.

The music analyst advised upcoming artistes not to rely on the success of a single song before releasing new material, but rather to keep creating and sharing their music.

“I’m only entreating the new artistes to put in work and release more songs. They shouldn’t wait for their previous songs to hit before they think of writing another song,” he said.

Joshua Agyei added, “Try and release your songs, communicate with the DJs and they will try their best for you.”
