The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has disclosed the kind of support it offered to event organisers during the 2025 “December in GH” festivities.

In an interview on Joy FM, the Deputy CEO of GTA, Abeiku Santana, noted that the Authority assisted some organisers with “Funding, logistics, access, visa on arrival, easy access to event venues and so on and so forth.”

Abeiku Santana added that in the past, event organisers faced challenges securing venues for their shows, but under the administration of CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto, the GTA held broad stakeholder engagements to help industry players understand the importance of the creative economy.

He cited, for instance, that since the University of Ghana Sports Stadium was built, it had never been given to private organisers for non-sporting events until their administration secured it for events in 2025.

“The role GTA is playing this time around with our stakeholders, getting access to venues. Hitherto, event organisers needed venues. They were not getting, checked from since University of Ghana Stadium was built, they were not giving access to private event organisers to do their events there.

“Now, GTA, through the leadership of Maame Efua Houadjeto, have had a broad stakeholder engagement with our stakeholders to appreciate what tourism, arts, the creative economy means,” he noted.

When asked whether the GTA would offer financial support to an event organisers in Tamale who are financially handicapped, he explained that it depends on certain factors, particularly the organiser’s track record.

He stressed that while experienced organisers can be supported financially, first-time organisers may only receive logistical support.

“Yes, we can, but it depends on a number of things or factors… we can support him financially because we know that fund or money that we are giving him is going to yield results. But if you haven’t done it before, and your first time you are coming, we might support you with maybe logistic and so on and so forth,” he added.
