The Western Regional office of the Ghana Water Limited (GWCL) has rewarded two customers in the commercial and domestic category, for their loyalty and prompt payment of monthly bills.
The recipients, the commercial customer, Takoradi Mall, and domestic customer, Mrs Agnes Mensah, a resident of Ntakorful in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, received GWCL customised wall clocks, mugs and box tissue papers.
Speaking in an interview with journalists after the presentations, the Acting Regional Chief Manager of GWCL, Western Region, Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, explained that, the gesture was part of the Company’s policy to “celebrate, honour, and reward” deserving and loyal customers in October, every year.
October was dedicated as a Customer Service Month, he added.
Nana Barnie continued “It has been our policy that every October will be celebrated as a customer service month, and this year, we looked through our records and discovered that these two customers pay their monthly bills regularly and in full without leaving any arrears.”
He told the journalists there was the need for Ghana Water Company to honour, show love and appreciations to the deserving customers and let the world know that “these are loyal customers who need great commendations.”
The Ag. Chief Regional Chief Manager encouraged other institutions and individuals to emulate the good examples of Takoradi Mall and Mrs Mensah, and promptly pay their monthly water bills to help boost the operations of the company.
Nana Barnie reiterated that GWCL was no longer a subvented organisation, and that it depended on payment of water bills to run its daily activities, saying that, non-payment of bills was a big challenge to their operations.
He reported that, over 45,000 customers of the company in the region had accumulated arrears to the tune of GHC 23,000.
“We are pleading with our customers to pay their water bills to help us run our day-to-day activities, else a time will come where GWCL will find it difficult to buy chemicals to treat water, buy fuel and other operational items due to non-payment of water bills,” he added.
Nana Barnie mentioned that GWCL had ensured customers paid their water bills with ease and in comfort with the introduction of an electronic payment platform where customers can pay their bills by dialing *1010# or downloading *GWCL Customer App* from either playstore or Appstore.
Receiving the items, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Takoradi Mall, Mr Theophilus Quartey, thanked GWCL for the recognition and said the kind gesture would encourage them to do more.
“We appreciate the gesture. It is a good thing worth emulating. It will encourage us to be paying more and will even challenge us to pay the bills in advance before the bills are delivered to ensure that the company continues to deliver on its mandate,” he added.
Mrs Mensah also expressed joy that GWCL recognised her as one of their best customers in the region.
She said, the items received would motivate her to regularly pay her water bills, and encouraged other members in her community to do same.
