Wendy Shay has added another landmark achievement to her career after emerging as Best Female Artiste in Western Africa at the 2026 All-Africa Music Awards, a win driven by the popularity of her song “Too Late”.

The awards ceremony took place in Lagos, Nigeria, bringing to a close a packed five-day programme that combined music business discussions with live showcases, before culminating in the main awards night.

Competition in the Western Africa female category was intense, with heavyweight artistes such as Tiwa Savage, Moliy, Ayra Starr and Amaarae all vying for the honour. When Wendy Shay’s name was called, the announcement was met with loud applause, instantly setting her win apart as one of the evening’s defining moments.

The recognition sparked celebration among fans and industry insiders alike, especially as she walked on stage to receive the award at one of the continent’s most respected music events.

While accepting the honour, Wendy Shay expressed appreciation to those who have supported her journey, pointing to her faith, her team and her loyal fan base. She also singled out a young dancer whose viral moment helped propel the song to wider attention.

“I want to say thank you to my Lord and Saviour. I want to say thank you to my fans, the Shay Gang. I want to say thank you to my partners. And I want to say thank you to my baby, Tracy Shay, for dancing to ‘Too Late’. It went viral because of her,” she said, crediting Tracy Shay’s role in boosting the song’s reach.
