German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have officially announced plans to launch their first football academy on the African continent in Ghana, with operations set to commence in February 2026.

The BVB International Academy Ghana will offer structured football training and development programmes for young boys and girls aged six to 18.

According to club officials, the academy will adhere to Borussia Dortmund’s renowned football philosophy, placing a strong emphasis on high-performance standards, contemporary coaching methods, and the comprehensive personal development of young athletes both on and off the pitch.

The establishment of the academy represents a significant milestone in Borussia Dortmund’s global expansion strategy. Club officials cited Ghana’s proven reputation as a key talent hub in Africa, responsible for developing numerous players who have excelled at the highest levels of European football, as a primary factor in selecting the country for this strategic venture.

Beyond youth player development, the academy has outlined plans to make coach education and community outreach programmes major priorities.

This approach underscores a commitment to contributing to the long-term development of football infrastructure within Ghana.

With this launch, Borussia Dortmund joins a growing list of prominent European football clubs that have established academies across Africa, reflecting the increasing competition to identify and nurture young talent on the continent and a rising investment in grassroots football development.
