A popular craft beer has been urgently pulled from shelves over safety concerns, amid fears it could dangerously over-carbonate and create a ‘bottle bomb’.

Loophole Brewing Co has issued a recall for its Pacific Ale 5-litre Party Keg following the discovery of a possible secondary fermentation, where pressure builds up and cause the bottles to leak, rupture or explode.

The product has been sold at Costco stores across New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria and Western Australia.

Secondary fermentation can also alter the beer’s taste and strength, leading to unexpected increases in alcohol content and, in some cases, illness if consumed.

‘Consumers should not drink or open this product, and should dispose of it safely,’ the NSW Food Authority said.

‘Please contact Loophole Brewing Co for safe disposal instructions and reimbursement.

‘Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.’

The impacted kegs have the date markings Pkd 13/10/25 BB 13/10/26 and Pkd 15/10/25 BB 15/10/26.
