Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has made a light-hearted pledge ahead of Ghana’s Group L encounter against England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at the conclusion of what he described as “extremely fruitful deliberations” with the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, Mr Ablakwa said he would personally host the diplomat if the Black Stars emerged victorious over England.

According to Mr Ablakwa, the promised gesture would see the high commissioner invited to his North Tongu constituency, where he would personally prepare a traditional Ghanaian meal of akple and fetri detsi in celebration of a Ghanaian win.

The comment, shared publicly by Mr Ablakwa on Facebook, adds a cultural and diplomatic flavour to the much-anticipated Group L fixture between Ghana and England at the 2026 World Cup, a match that is expected to attract significant attention from football fans in both countries.

While the Black Stars continue preparations for the global tournament, the remark has been received as a symbol of goodwill and friendly rivalry, blending Ghanaian hospitality with the excitement surrounding one of the group’s headline clashes.

In Group L, Ghana faces Panama before England and finally Croatia.

The global showpiece has expanded from 32 to 48 countries, with Mexico, the United States, and Canada co-hosting.
