Legendary South African musician Yvonne Chaka Chaka, affectionately known as the “Princess of Africa”, arrived in Ghana on Sunday, December 28, amid anticipation ahead of her performance at this year’s African Festival.

The festival, which began on December 28 and runs until December 30, is expected to be a vibrant celebration of African culture and creativity.

On arrival, Chaka Chaka was warmly welcomed by the Chief Executive Officer of Globe Productions, playwright Abubakar Latif, and his team.

Expressing her excitement about being part of the festival, she said: “I feel at home when I’m in Ghana. I love the people, the culture, the dance — I just love everything about Ghana.”

She also gave fans insight into her preparations, revealing that she arrived with a supporting team that includes two dancers and two keyboardists to ensure a memorable performance for Ghanaian audiences.

Beyond performing, Chaka Chaka said she was keen to learn more about Ghana’s cultural heritage.

She noted that she was “not just here to perform” but also to “learn and get to know more about Ghana from the plays”.

The veteran musician highlighted the importance of African unity and cultural exchange, saying it is “imperative that we as Africans start learning from, and embracing, each other”.

She praised Ghana’s growing arts scene, describing the country as “becoming the go-to place when it comes to culture”, and added that “a country without arts, culture or creativity is a doomed country”.

Chaka Chaka is scheduled to perform on December 30 and assured fans that she is ready to give them the experience they want. “Tell her what you want,” she said, inviting audiences to be part of the moment.
