    • Man and woman who died believed to be a couple
    • Woman’s former partner in custody

By CANDACE SUTTON, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA

    Published: 01:08 EST, 28 December 2025 | Updated: 01:31 EST, 28 December 2025

A man remains in custody as harrowing details about the couple who died in a suspected stabbing on a quiet Sydney street begin to emerge.

Emergency responders were called to an Illabo Street home in Quakers Hill just before 5am on Sunday after reports of a disturbance.

They arrived to find a man lying on the footpath, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his stomach and hands.

The body of a woman aged in her 30s was found inside the home.

The man, also aged in his 30s, was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition, where he died several hours later.

Police believe the victims were in a relationship, and that the suspect was a former partner of the deceased woman.

‘We believe the deceased male and female were in a relationship; however we’re still working to determine the nature and duration of that relationship,’ Riverstone Superintendent Jason Joyce told reporters.

‘The male currently in custody was previously in a relationship with the female.’

A 47-year-old man was arrested after he attended Blacktown Police Station at about 5.30am.

He was still being questioned by police on Sunday afternoon.

No charges have yet been laid, but police said that the man is expected to face two counts of murder.

‘At this stage, it appears to be a domestic violence incident; however it is still early in our inquiries,’ Supt Joyce said.

‘It’s very sad, particularly at this time of year. My condolences go out to the families of the deceased.’

Police have seized a knife located at a service station in nearby Woodcroft, which they believe was used during the incident.

Crime scenes were established at the Quakers Hill home, the service station, and a Blacktown address linked to the man in custody.

Shocked neighbours were woken by a commotion outside at about 4.30am, followed by screams and then ‘pure silence’ until police arrived.

‘There was a couple of brief crashes … and then a lady screamed,’ Arafel Kane told the ABC.

‘Just to know that it can happen anywhere … is awful.’

Strike Force Acoma has been set up to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information or relevant CCTV is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
