The Akuapem Traditional Council has suspended the Okuapehemaa, Nana Afua Obuo Nketiah, over what it has described as acts of insubordination.

The decision was announced by the Council under the umbrella of five divisional chiefs, which is led by the Osahene, Boafo Ansah III, who also serves as the Akuapem Krontihene.

Speaking during a meeting of the Traditional Council, Osahene Boafo Ansah III stated that the Okuapehemaa has failed to maintain a working relationship with the Council, noting that she has not attended any council meetings for the past six years.

“From today, we have nothing to do with her. For the past six years, she has not stepped foot here to attend meetings with the Traditional Council,” he said.

The Council further accused Nana Afua Obuo Nketiah of making public utterances that it says have brought disrepute to the Akuapem Traditional State.

According to the leadership of the Council, her public comments have not helped the image and unity of the traditional area.

The Okuapehemaa was also accused of attempting to disrupt the recently held Odwira Festival, one of the most important traditional festivals of the Akuapem people.

“She also tried to stop the recent Odwira Festival,” Osahene Boafo Ansah III added.

The Traditional Council maintained that the suspension takes immediate effect and forms part of efforts to uphold discipline, respect for traditional authority, and the preservation of customs within the Akuapem Traditional Area.
