Actress and musician Nana Frema Koranteng has revealed that she stepped away from acting because it was financially unrewarding.

Speaking on MzGee’s G O’Clock, Frema explained that she made the decision after returning to the entertainment scene following maternity leave. The mother of two boys said she now prefers to focus fully on music, which remains her first love.

Nana Frema, who first rose to prominence as a contestant on Vodafone Icons, ventured into acting after the music reality show but has since taken a long break from the movie industry.

“I have not been doing movies for a very long time. I will probably come back, but now my first love is music,” she said.

When asked why she abandoned her acting career, Frema disclosed that many producers expected her to work without pay, while others required her to use her personal belongings, including costumes, on set.

“It was not paying; I will not even lie to you,” she stated. “People will want you to come and work for them for free, and I kept asking myself, when is this going to stop? You want me on set—that is why you cast me—so why don’t you pay me?”

She added, “Sometimes they even expect us to come with our own costumes. If I am shooting everyone’s movie with my own clothes, I will eventually run out of clothes.”
