In a clear demonstration of leadership by action, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has presented six brand-new Toyota Coaster buses (2025 model) to staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, fulfilling a commitment he made on his very first day in office.

The presentation, made earlier today, follows a pledge the Minister gave during a staff durbar upon assuming duty—signaling a results-oriented approach to leadership that prioritizes staff welfare and accountability.

According to Hon. Ablakwa, the initiative is driven by a simple but powerful principle: coming to work should not be stressful. The buses will be used to transport Ministry staff to and from work free of charge, significantly reducing the daily financial and logistical burden faced by public servants.

By easing commuting challenges, the intervention is expected to improve punctuality, productivity, morale, and overall job satisfaction among staff—key ingredients for an efficient and responsive foreign service.

The Minister also revealed that general conditions of service at the Ministry have seen notable improvements, reinforcing a broader commitment to creating a supportive and motivating work environment. He emphasized that staff welfare and motivation are not optional extras, but essential pillars for effective public service delivery.

Observers say the move sets a strong example for public sector leadership, demonstrating how practical interventions—rather than rhetoric—can improve working conditions and restore confidence among civil servants.

As calls grow for greater accountability and people-centered governance, the Foreign Affairs Minister’s action serves as a reminder that promises made to workers must be promises kept, and that investing in public servants ultimately strengthens national institutions.
