Popular Ghanaian Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has described his time collaborating and being mentored by the late Daddy Lumba as the highest and most fulfilling point of his music career.

Speaking in an interview with Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment on GhanaWeb TV, Amponsah reflected on his early days in the industry and the impact working with the Highlife legend had on his growth.

“When I came out with Daddy Lumba, the songs we wrote together were my highest point. Later, I released good songs like ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Otoolege’. They were equally good, but working with Daddy Lumba was my sweetest time,” he said.

According to Amponsah, Daddy Lumba played a significant mentorship role in his life, pushing him to explore his full potential and believe in the possibilities within the music industry.

“He made me see possibilities. He encouraged me to be the best that I can be, and I will miss him so much. He was a great gift to this nation and to the world,” he said.

The Highlife singer also revealed that Daddy Lumba, alongside Kojo Antwi, were his biggest musical influences while growing up.

He noted that he studied their music closely and even fashioned some of his songwriting after Kojo Antwi’s style.

“I grew up listening to Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi. I especially wrote songs around Kojo Antwi’s songs. They are my icons,” he stated.

Reacting to the death of Daddy Lumba, Amponsah said he initially found it difficult to believe the news, describing the late musician as a father figure whose passing has left an irreplaceable void in Ghana’s music industry.

“I didn’t believe it at first, but when I later confirmed it, I knew my father was gone. There is no one to fill these shoes.

“He is one of the greatest singers Ghana has ever known, and it will take a long time for someone to fill the void he has left,” he said.
