Female farmers in the Nkwanta North District of the Oti Region have expressed concern about the sharp decline in produce prices after a good harvest this year.

According to them, crops such as maize, groundnuts, beans, sorghum, millet and pepper are fetching significantly lower prices, leaving them to struggle financially.

Many who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated that, a bowl of maize now sells for under GH¢20, down from GH¢40 last year.

They said beans, soya beans, sorghum, millet and groundnuts are priced below GH¢10, compared to GH¢20-25 previously.

Madam Faustina Ndonbe Ntebe, 2025 District Female Best Farmer and others expressed fear that the trend could discourage future farming investments and threaten food security.

The 2025 Overall District Best Farmer, Usal Ntesimbo, said many farmers had unsold produce and urged swift action by government to prevent worsening poverty and potential food crisis.

The farmers called on the government to improve market access, stabilize prices, introduce support programmes for female farmers, enhance marketing strategies and access to large markets.
