Veteran musician Fred Kyei Mensah has shared his thoughts on the burial and family issues surrounding the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

He expressed both concern and disappointment over some developments after the musician’s death.

Speaking in an interview on Onua TV on December 15, 2025, Fredyma mentioned that he deliberately kept quiet after Daddy Lumba’s death to observe events from a distance since he is not a member of the family.

“Daddy Lumba had been buried. I’m asking that if we are to return into this world after death, will he want to be in the same family he was in?

“Ever since he died, I’ve not said anything about it because I was quietly observing things and I’m not a family member,” he said.

He praised Abusuapanin Kofi for his role in ensuring the burial went ahead peacefully, noting that firm leadership was necessary.

“Abusuapanin Kofi has done so well and he deserves to be applauded. There was so much peace in the family before the one-week celebration. If Abusuapanin didn’t take a firm stand, they wouldn’t have been able to bury Daddy Lumba,” he noted.

According to him, once the family agreed to allow the Abusuapanin to take charge, disagreements were inevitable.

“Once they agreed that since he’s the Abusuapanin so he should handle everything, he would definitely offend some people,” he stated.

Fredyma, however, admitted he was unhappy about certain aspects of the burial arrangements.

“There were some things that I wish didn’t happen. I wasn’t happy with the decoration of where he was laid,” he said.

He also expressed sadness over what he described as the low turnout of musicians at Daddy Lumba’s funeral.

“I’m sad that with the kind of person Daddy Lumba was and the way musicians didn’t really show up for him, it’s very painful,” he lamented.

Touching on Daddy Lumba’s personal life, Fredyma said the late musician’s decision to settle with two women was a personal choice.

He further shared a personal experience that shaped his own views on marriage and family.

“Concerning him settling with two women, that’s his choice. Growing up, I didn’t like how my father changed women all the time,” he said.

Fredyma added, “My stepmother nearly poisoned me in 1997 and because of that, I never liked anything concerning stepmother. I advised myself that I will stick to only my wife no matter what happens.”
