Renowned beauty entrepreneur and educator Marie Noell-Yakubu has called on more men to consider careers in makeup artistry, saying the profession should not be viewed as the preserve of women alone.

She noted that men are already playing significant roles in Ghana’s beauty industry and encouraged greater male participation as the sector continues to expand.

“Makeup artistry is not limited to women. This morning, it was a male makeup artist who did my makeup. There are some really talented male makeup artists in Ghana, and more men should take advantage of the opportunities in this field,” she said.

Marie Noelle made the remarks during an interview at the 5th graduation ceremony of Marie Noelle’s Beauty Academy, held at the GTEC Hall in East Legon, Accra, on Saturday.

A total of 258 students graduated after completing courses in makeup artistry, hairstyling, nail technology, massage therapy, and other beauty-related disciplines. Graduands received certificates and medals in recognition of their training.

Speaking to the graduates, Marie Noelle urged them to approach their careers with confidence and professionalism, stressing that passion alone was not sufficient for success in the industry.

“Passion by itself is never enough. Technical and vocational training helps turn passion into a profession by equipping people with practical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset,” she said.

She also highlighted the broader economic impact of the beauty industry, describing it as a sector that creates employment, supports small businesses, and contributes to cultural expression.

“When I look at you, I see future employers, innovators, and people who will help shape the next phase of Ghana’s beauty industry,” she added.

The CEO of Make-Up Ghana and keynote speaker, Rebecca Donkor, encouraged the graduands to embrace continuous learning as the industry evolves.

“Graduation is not the end. It marks the beginning of a lifelong process of growth. Staying relevant requires learning new techniques, understanding the business side of beauty, and exploring related areas,” she said.

She also underscored the importance of collaboration among professionals to strengthen the industry as a whole.

Deputy Director-General in charge of Corporate Affairs at CTVET, Abdul Rahman Zakaria, commended efforts aimed at developing skilled professionals within the beauty and cosmetology space.

He said institutions offering structured vocational training were contributing to the sustainability and professionalism of the sector.
