Indigenous mining firm Azumah Resources has announced plans to begin gold production within the next 21 months as it advances the development of its Black Volta Gold Project in Ghana’s Upper West Region.

Speaking in an interview with the media in Accra on December 12, 2025, CEO Noel Addo said the manufacturing and installation of mining equipment is expected to take about 52 weeks.

He added that an additional eight months will be required to complete all preparatory works to ensure full operational readiness.

“The manufacturing of these items will take, let’s say, 52 weeks which is about a year, and we expect that within another year, maybe eight months, we will have everything in place. We expect to have gold pour in the next 21 months,” he said.

Azumah Resources kicks off Black Volta mine development with $37m FLSmidth deal

At full production capacity, the mine is projected to create about 1,700 sustainable jobs for residents, providing long-term employment opportunities rather than short-term contracts.

Addo explained that the Black Volta Gold Project has an estimated mine life of 11 years, with significant potential for expansion.

According to him, only about 20% of the total mine concession has so far been explored, and continuous exploration will be carried out alongside mining operations to extend the mine’s lifespan.

“This is a mine with an 11-year life, and we have only explored 20% of the total concession. As we continue mining, we will conduct further exploration. It is going to uplift the entire Wa area,” he stated.
