The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the Black Stars will take part in a high-profile friendly next year as part of their build-up to the 2026 World Cup.
Communications Director Henry Asante Twum revealed the plans following Friday’s (December 5) announcement of Ghana’s World Cup group stage opponents.
The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, will see the Black Stars placed in Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia.
Asante Twum indicated that the friendly will be against a prominent European side.
“We are likely to have a highly European-friendly. Even before the draw, we had received some requests from some of the big houses even before we play against South Korea and Japan, we had some European teams writing to us to check if indeed we will be in a good place to play so what we have to do now is look at all the possibilities and which one be benefitial to us and then we will go for it,” he told TV3.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, clash with England on June 23 in Boston, and conclude the group stage against 2018 finalists Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
Having exited at the group stage in Qatar four years ago, the Black Stars will be eager to progress further in North America.
