The Ghana swim team has departed Accra for Luanda, Angola, ahead of the 4th African Youth Games, which run from December 10 to 20, 2025. The delegation left on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, confident and motivated as they prepare to represent the nation at one of the continent’s biggest youth sporting events.

The team is made up of four young swimmers; Kelvin Abdallah, Mercedes Abdallah, Oduma Agyei, and Tamba Akin Boamah. They are led by Coach Jonathan Amoako-Atta, with Charles Mensah serving as Team Leader.

This year’s African Youth Games hold special significance as Angola becomes the first Lusophone country to host the event, which also coincides with the nation’s 50th Independence anniversary.

The Games will feature athletes aged 14 to 17 from as many as 54 African countries, competing across 33 sports disciplines in six host cities, including Luanda, Benguela and Bengo.

The Games serve not only as a platform for competition but also as a critical pathway for talent identification and development.

Performances in Luanda will play a key role in qualification for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, adding extra motivation for participating nations. Organisers say the event also aims to foster unity, cultural exchange and youth development across Africa.

The official logo and mascot, the Galinha d’Angola, have been endorsed by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ACNOA), symbolising Angola’s readiness and commitment to delivering a memorable continental event.
