Dede Ayew has not played in a competitive game for the Black Stars since the 2023 AFCON Dede Ayew has not played in a competitive game for the Black Stars since the 2023 AFCON

Veteran Ghanaian football administrator Charles Kwadwo Ntim, popularly known as Micky Charles, believes Andre “Dede” Ayew will make a sensational return to the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, despite the player’s current absence from both club and national team football.

Ayew, 35, has not featured for Ghana in a competitive game since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Many analysts view his continued exclusion by head coach Otto Addo as a sign that the team is shifting towards a more youthful core.

Addo has emphasised long-term rebuilding, form, and fitness in his selection decisions, even though he has not closed the door entirely on recalling senior players.

The former Swansea and West Ham midfielder also remains unattached, having not played for a club since completing the 2024/25 season with Le Havre in the French Ligue 1.

But according to Micky Charles, the narrative around Dede Ayew could change quickly.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM on December 10, 2025, the President of Techiman City said his recent observations at the Nania Park left him convinced that Ayew is on track for a major comeback, both for club and country.

He recounted what he witnessed, insisting the intensity of Ayew’s training suggests a player far from finished.

“I was at Nania Park yesterday [December 9, 2025], and I saw a couple of old Black Stars players, including Wakaso and Afriyie Acquah. You should go and see how Dede is training. I won’t be surprised that he will be part of the Black Stars World Cup squad. I’m also sure that by January 2026, he will sign for a new club,” he said.

If Charles’ prediction holds, Ayew could secure a transfer during the January 2026 window, potentially strengthening his chances of forcing a return to the national team.
