Randy Abbey, Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board, (COCOBOD) missed the 2025 National Farmers Day Celebrations because he is on leave, Public Relations Officer of COCOBOD, Jerome K Sam has confirmed

Speaking in an interview on Oyerapa FM and monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, December 8, 2025, he stated, “Randy Abbey missed the celebrations because he is on leave.”

He added that the responsibility of organising the event does not fall on COCOBOD.

“It is National Farmers’ Day. Is it not the responsibility of COCOBOD to organise it? The fact is he is on leave,” he said.

Jerome Sam further noted that Abbey’s presence would not have significantly impacted the celebrations.

“If he was present, what impact would it have made?” he questioned.

He also reaffirmed Abbey’s commitment to the welfare of Ghanaian farmers.

“His absence does not mean he disrespected farmers. Randy Abbey is very concerned about the welfare of Ghanaian farmers,” Sam added.

National Farmers’ Day, celebrated on December 5 every year, honours the contributions of farmers to Ghana’s economy.

Cocoa farming, which requires long-term dedication and significant investment to protect crops, remains a crucial part of the sector.

COCOBOD, the government agency overseeing the cash crop, regulates prices and supports farmers seeking to venture into cocoa production.

Abbey, who is also an executive member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), was reportedly in Washington DC, USA, during the celebrations.
