Ghanaian businesswoman Patricia Poku-Diaby has, over the years, changed the narrative of African entrepreneurship by proving that local companies can thrive alongside multinational giants.

Born into a prominent business family, she is one of 18 children of the late Ghanaian entrepreneur Francis Kojo Poku.

Her journey began when she took a bold step from her father’s business in 2010 to start her own business in the cocoa industry, drawing inspiration from her father’s transport and trading company.

In 2010, Patricia Poku-Diaby founded the Plot Enterprise Group, a commodities trading and processing powerhouse headquartered in Côte d’Ivoire.

Having grown up in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, she watched her business expand into a multinational company with operations in both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

With nearly three decades of experience in the industry, the multinational businesswoman now operates a state-of-the-art cocoa processing plant in Takoradi, with an annual capacity of 32,000 metric tonnes.

She also runs a 16,000–metric-ton grinding plant in Abidjan.

This makes her the only African woman to have built a large-scale cocoa processing facility, an industry traditionally dominated by men and multinational corporations.

Thanks to her multinational operations, Patricia Poku-Diaby’s net worth is estimated between $450 million and $750 million, making her the richest businesswoman in Ghana.

Despite her immense success in the cocoa processing industry, Patricia remains committed to philanthropy, focusing on education and economic empowerment, particularly for women and the youth.
