THE Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has commemorated the first anniversary of the passing of its founder, Madam Akua Donkor, with a solemn ceremony at Ejuratia in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region.

Party executives, led by the current leader and 2024 Presidential Candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, visited her graveside to honour her memory and reflect on her contribution to Ghana’s political landscape.

Addressing journalists in Accra after the commemoration, Roman Fada reaffirmed the party’s resolve to uphold the ideals of its late founder and reposition the GFP as a credible force ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He insisted that the party remained active and focused, despite the void created by Madam Donkor’s passing.

“The Ghana Freedom Party is not dead, and the loss of Madam Akua Donkor will not diminish our strength. Rather, it has renewed our commitment to serve Ghanaians with integrity, courage and bold solutions,” he said.

He noted that Madam Donkor’s political vision was centred on empowering ordinary citizens and offering an alternative to what he described as the long-standing dominance of the NDC and NPP.

According to him, the late founder believed in leadership rooted in service to the nation, a principle the party was determined to uphold.

“Her dream was to see a Ghana where leaders work for the people, not for themselves. We are keeping that dream alive,” he added.

As part of efforts to revive the party, Roman Fada announced a series of reorganisation and outreach programmes, including youth mentorship initiatives, entrepreneurship support schemes and nationwide engagement forums aimed at attracting young people seeking meaningful political change.

He said the GFP would continue to open its doors to the youth, whom he described as the “heartbeat of the nation’s future.”

On tackling corruption and restoring public confidence in politics, he disclosed that the party was identifying credible personalities from diverse professional backgrounds to form its next generation of leaders.

“We are not looking for politicians seeking personal gain. We are recruiting men and women of integrity, competence and compassion, people who understand that leadership is about sacrifice,” he stressed.

The GFP has also established a training platform to equip its communicators with skills in public speaking, political education and ethical communication.

This initiative, he explained, aims to promote issue-based and respectful political discourse as the country’s political environment becomes increasingly competitive.
