The chief resident engineer for the Ofankor–Nsawam road project, Kwabena Bempong, has stated that construction work is about 78 percent complete, with engineers pushing into the final phase of the rehabilitation.

According to him, the contractors are currently opening up the last section of the stretch, including work on the Amasaman underpass, to prepare the corridor for its final asphalt surfacing.

Ofankor-Nsawam road could be completed by April 2026 – President Mahama

“From kilometre zero, which is the Ofankor Interchange, you will realise that we have been doing a lot of work; the first two-kilometre section is where we intend to complete the road up to the wearing course. I know people have wondered what we were doing. Some thought we were only doing road line marking, but we were actually providing the final asphalt layer on the main carriageway”, he stated in an interview on Channel One TV on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Kwabena Bempong said service roads have already been completed and marked to enhance safety for drivers.

As part of the ongoing rehabilitation, a scheduled diversion of traffic on the Nsawam-bound lane from Achimota Neoplan to Pokuase has been announced by Maripoma Enterprise Limited, contractor for the project.

The diversion will start 10:00 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2025, and end at 10:00 am on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

The temporary closure is to allow asphalt works on a section of the Ofankor–White House stretch.

During the 12-hour period, all Nsawam-bound vehicles will be redirected onto the service road from Achimota Neoplan to Pokuase.

The road is a key arterial route linking Accra to the Eastern Region.

The current rehabilitation project, which began in July 2022, seeks to widen the road, improve drainage, and replace damaged sections with durable asphalt to ensure a safer and more efficient travel experience.
