According to Elder David Laryea the pastor convinced him to secure the loan for him

There was drama on Nhyira FM when a 70-year-old elder of the Root of David Church confronted his pastor over an alleged GH¢40,000 loan scandal.

According to Elder David Laryea, the church’s founder convinced him to use his house documents to secure a loan for a supposed gold-related spiritual project.

He said the pastor promised to repay once the gold and bottles dug from the ground were purified, but several months later, he has refused to pay.

“The pastor told us he had dug for gold and some bottles from Elder MTN’s land and that we needed money to perform certain purification for the gold.

“Out of trust, I used my house papers to secure a loan. Together with Elder Agyei, the church secretary, and MTN, we went to the bank and secured 400 million old cedis (₵40,000). The money was handed to the pastor,” Laryea narrated on air.

According to the leader, the loan has now accumulated interest of nearly GH¢200,000 and his building is at risk of being sold to settle the debt.

He added that after numerous failed attempts to get his money back, he was threatened with arrest and later expelled from the church.

When the radio host put the allegations to the pastor, he denied everything, claiming no official documents were signed and insisting he never took money from the elder.

But some church members who spoke to the producers of the show contradicted him, revealing that the pastor had on several occasions praised Elder Laryea in church for securing the loan.

They further alleged that the pastor even promised to rebuild Laryea’s house if he lost it to the loan.
