The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, GTEC, has warned the public that six learning centres at the University of Ghana are operating without accreditation.

This was contained in a statement issued by the commission on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) hereby brings to the notice of the public that the following Learning Centres currently operated by the University of Ghana (UG) have not been accredited by the Commission, UG Learning Centre, Koforidua, UG Learning Centre, Cape Coast, UG Learning Centre, Tamale UG Learning Centre, Ho/Tsito, UG Learning Centre, Wa and UG Learning Centre, Sunyani,” it noted.

The commission further indicated that, “All academic qualifications issued by the University at these centres are not recognised by GTEC for the purposes of

    employment, further education and promotion.”

The commission has also directed eleven institutions across the country to immediately suspend fresh admissions until they meet the required accreditation standards.

These include the Institute of Business Management and Journalism in Kumasi, Rural Development College in Kwaso, University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies in Bunso, School of Anaesthesia in Kumasi, Unique Citizens College in Accra, Kings and Queens Medical College in Akosombo, Springs College in Labone, Wintech Professional Institute in Accra, Trans Africa College in Accra, Royal Nursing College in Kumasi, and OAA Consulting Limited in Kumasi.

“These institutions have been directed to cease fresh admissions with immediate effect until they meet the accreditation standards required by the Commission,” GTEC said.

Additionally, the commission disclosed that the institutional accreditation of 26 institutions has expired.

These include Abbeam Institute of Technology in Kasoa, Lakeside University College in Accra, Institute of Local Government Studies in Accra, Ohawu College of Agriculture, Kwadaso Agricultural College in Kumasi, Animal Health and Production College in Tamale, Oak City International College in Accra, and several nursing and midwifery training colleges across the regions.

“Prospective students, parents, guardians, and the public should verify the accreditation status of all institutions, Learning Centres, and academic programmes directly with the Commission before seeking admission,” it advised.

The commission cautioned that enrolling in unaccredited centres or institutions can lead to significant setbacks, including wasted time, financial losses, and compromised career prospects.

“Enrolling in unaccredited institutions or Learning Centres poses serious risks, including the potential loss of time, financial resources, and future career opportunities,” the statement added.

GTEC said the notice is part of efforts to ensure public safety, prevent misinformation, and protect students and families from possible exploitation.
