Ghanaian athlete Grace Mintah has been in the spotlight following her promotion by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, to the rank of Chief Inspector.

The Armwrestling champion’s dedication and relentless service to the police have earned her the promotion, as IGP Yohunu intends to motivate and reward committed personnel.

This article highlights some facts about Grace Mintah regarding her successes and exploits in the police service and sports.

    Early life

Grace began her career as an athlete competing in Armwrestling since childhood.

Following her exploits at the local level, she gained her first global experience at the 2023 World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia, where she failed to enter the medal zone.

She continued training diligently and competing in local events to prepare herself for subsequent tournaments.

    2023 African Games

The athlete made a strong comeback to dominate the 2023 African Games.

She claimed back-to-back double gold, establishing herself in the history books of the nation as the first woman to have attained such a feat.

During an interview with GNA after the victory, she thanked all persons who contributed to her success.

“This is a dream come true for me. I am so grateful to my President Charles Osei Asibey, family, coaches, Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for their unwavering support,” she said.

    World Armwrestling Championship

Grace made history as the first African woman to win a gold medal at the World Armwrestling Championship in the Master Women 80kg left arm contest.

The gold medalist clinched the top spot in Moldova after defeating her opponents from Sweden, Ukraine, Germany, and Turkey in the women’s 80kg category.

    Ghana Police Service

Mintah has been a member of the police service for quite some time.

Her commitment to her role within the Ghana Police Service has been exemplary, showcasing her as a role model for young officers.

Mintah’s promotion is expected to inspire more officers within the service to strive for excellence in their respective fields, whether in sports, community service, or their professional duties.

    Dual Role

Mintah’s versatility is unmatched as she plays two roles in serving the nation.

While performing her role as a police officer and enforcing the law, she also competes for the nation in Armwrestling competitions.

When winning two gold medals for Ghana at the 2025 African Games, she was serving in the police service and training to make the nation proud.
