Cape Coast – In a demonstration of solidarity community support, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, donated 400 streetlights to 22 Assembly Members and supported Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs FC with one hundred thousand cedis, aimed at illuminating the constituency and assisting the football club to qualify for Ghana’s Premier League, respectively.
The dual donation exercises commenced with the donation of streetlights at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly premises on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with each of the 22 members receiving 10 lights each, totaling 220 lights, and the remaining 180 reserved for backup purposes.
Hon. Ricketts-Hagan, speaking to journalists, mentioned that following his initial meeting with the Assembly Members, it was revealed that one of the major challenges facing the constituency was darkness
“One of the problems was that the communities were not well-lit”, he said, underscoring “That is unacceptable, and I pledged to provide streetlights to address the lighting issue”. The MP disclosed that this constitutes the initial instalment of 400 streetlights, committing to continue the initiative in subsequent years.
Ricketts-Hagan emphasized that this consignment was part of the government’s support to his constituency, and his role was to advocate for its allocation. “I have been lobbying for over a decade and have been able to bring this to my people; I will continue to do more”, he promsied.
He, however, seized the moment to caution the members of the assembly to refrain from selling the lights they are required to use to illuminate their electoral areas. He emphasized that some of them sell the lights, and he advised them to refrain from doing so, as it is an affront to their honourable title.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer for Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, speaking on behalf of the Assembly Members, commended the MP for his generous donation, urging the assembly members to utilize the lights for their designated purpose of illuminating the constituency.
He expresses gratitude to the MP for his assistance in providing streetlights to benefit approximately 30 communities within the constituency. “We extend our appreciation to our MP and the president for their support, ensuring every community receives adequate lighting,” he emphasized.
Following the streetlights donation, the Member of Parliament, accompanied by his entourage, proceeded to the A. M. E. Zion Memorial SHS park to boost the morale of the Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs FC. Hon Ricketts-Hagan commenced his address by extending new year greetings to the playing body and management, invoking God’s blessings to fulfill the aspirations of all present.
The MP urged the playing body to deliver their optimal performance in tomorrow’s match, reminding them of the profound implications this would have for the entire Cape Coast. According to him, he was there to express solidarity with them and encourage them to secure a victory in tomorrow’s match.
“Tomorrow’s match is a must-win, not a draw, he reminded them. You must win at all costs, he reiterated, adding, “Once you’re at the top of the league log, then whatever we can also do to assist in qualifying for the Premier League will be done”, he promsied the team.
The Cape South MP pledged to support the team with ¢100,000.00 by donating ¢50,000 in cash and a cheque for ¢50,000 to cover the ¢100,000.
“The hundred thousand should be allocated, with 50,000 for the playing body and 50,000 for management”, he stated. “The initial 50,000 cash should be divided into two: 25,000 to the management and the other half to the playing body”.
On the team’s history, the MP reminded them that Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs FC was established in 1932, a year that predates the country’s independence. “Such a team cannot afford not to be in our premier league, he stressed, emphasizing that “your inability to play Premier League football has rendered our state-of-the-art stadium redundant,” he emphasized.
He reminded them of their obligation to return to the Premier League in order to maximize the utilization of the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. “This is one thing that the residents of Cape Coast would take pride in,” he observed.
Mr. Nathaniel Appiah Sam, Captain of Mysterious Edusua Dwarfs FC, expressed gratitude on behalf of the players to the MP for his gesture, assuring him of a win with divine favour. “It is every player’s aspiration to compete in the Premier League; we pledge to deliver our best performance and, with God on our side, secure a victory in tomorrow’s game,” he stated.
