From mainstream radio and television to independent YouTube channels, four Ghanaian media professionals have successfully leveraged their reputations and expertise to become digital creators in their own right.

They are proof that with the right pivot, legacy media experience can translate into online brand success.

Let’s take a look at some of them:

    1. Kafui Dey

Award-winning broadcaster and show host Kafui Dey has built a strong, independent brand in Ghana’s media landscape.

He is well-known for hosting major programmes, including the Ghanaian quiz show franchise Who Wants to Be Rich? and morning shows on GTV and radio.

Beyond on-air work, he has leveraged his personal brand as a communications consultant and lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).

After leaving GTV in 2024, Kafui Dey now runs a YouTube channel where he publishes interviews, commentary, and features with notable Ghanaians.

    2. Jessica Opare‑Saforo

Jessica Opare-Saforo carved out a successful independent media and business career.

She worked for over 17 years at Citi FM/Channel One TV in Accra, hosting flagship shows such as Brunch in the Citi, Traffic Avenue, and Sister Sister.

She is also the owner of the voice-talent business The Voice Ova Company, demonstrating how she turned her media experience into entrepreneurial success.

In 2022, Opare-Saforo left Citi FM to focus full-time on her YouTube channel. On her channel, “Jessica OS”, she creates content around relationships, self-improvement, and everyday life, and has surpassed 1 million subscribers.

    3. Headless YouTuber (aka Kula Gh / Frederick Mattey)

Starting as a rapper and radio presenter with YFM Ghana, Kula transitioned into one of Ghana’s rising YouTube creators under the anonymous persona “Headless YouTuber”, which he launched in 2021.

His channel garnered significant engagement, and he publicly revealed his identity in 2025. Today, Kula has grown his channel into a platform for pop culture topics, including interviews, music breakdowns, and more.

    4. Olele Salvador (Emmanuel Kwame Sarpong)

Olele Salvador is a pop-culture journalist and media personality who has built influence through both digital platforms and broadcast.

He has worked with major media houses, including Channel One TV and 3Music TV, where he hosted shows and contributed to content and digital strategy.

In 2024, he was named among the 50 Most Influential Young Ghanaians, reflecting his growing independent profile. Today, Olele has carved a name for himself in the social media space, becoming a go-to source of information, particularly on X and YouTube.
