The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the ruling National Democratic Congress’ flagship 24-hour economy policy as a “scam” and a “fraud,” accusing President John Dramani Mahama of deceiving the youth to win power.

In a statement dated Monday, January 12, and signed by National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha, the group said the much-publicised job creation promise has failed to materialise one year into the administration.

“The NDC promised a 24-hour economy as a panacea for this problem… However, one year down the line, this appears to be a scam perpetrated on the youth. They have been scammed out of their votes, safe to call it fraud and deception of gargantuan proportions,” the statement said.

The youth wing cited growing desperation among young people, referencing a recent stampede at the El-Wak Stadium where six young women reportedly died while seeking enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces.

“This jobs matter goes beyond winning elections; it is a real ticking time bomb,” the group warned.

The NPP Youth Wing called on President Mahama to honour his campaign promises and urgently address youth unemployment.
