The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has described the 2024 general elections as the best in the history of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on February 26, 2025, Mensa commended the transparency, fairness, and credibility of the electoral process, which saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerge victorious.

Addressing representatives of political parties, civil society organizations (CSOs), and media partners, Mensa congratulated the NDC on their victory, stating, “You won the 2024 elections without a shadow of a doubt. As they say, ‘nothing missing, nothing broken.’ It was clear that you were the winners of the elections. Congratulations.”

She also acknowledged the efforts of other political parties and independent candidates, encouraging them with the words, “Better luck next time.”

Mensa further noted that the 2024 elections affirmed the effectiveness of the EC’s systems and processes, proving that elections in Ghana are free, fair, credible, and transparent.

“I’m sure you all agree with me that the outcome of the 2024 general elections is a confirmation and affirmation that our processes and systems work.

“The outcomes are indeed an attestation that elections in Ghana are free, fair, credible, and transparent. It is a confirmation that elections are won or lost at the polling station, and therefore, it is important for political parties to take ownership of what happens at the polling stations. It is also a confirmation that the Electoral Commission of Ghana can be trusted to conduct free, fair, transparent, and credible elections year after year,” she stated.

She reiterated the Commission’s commitment to upholding the will of the people as expressed at the polls, without bias.

“Our role is not to make any candidate or political party a winner,” Mensa emphasized.

She also thanked the media and CSOs for their valuable contributions and called for continued cooperation as the country prepares for future elections.

The IPAC meeting marked the first gathering of stakeholders since the 2024 elections, aimed at rekindling collaboration and charting a path forward for Ghana’s electoral processes.
