Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has bemoaned the current state of his party, the New Patriotic Party, which he said was worrying.

Speaking at the commissioning of the NPP’s Patriotic Institute on June 25, 2025, the former president asserted that the party’s current state led to its defeat in the 2024 election.

He added that recent election results have shown that Ghanaian voters are not gullible and cannot be deceived.

“How come a party with a philosophy and vision for humanity, that’s the main strength of our tradition, we have been reduced to the current situation? A situation we all regret or must regret, how come?

“This thing didn’t happen just like that. If we take care to look at the electoral history from 2016, 2020 to 2024, and if we are sincere with ourselves, we would know that the electorate of Ghana has matured. Nobody can deceive it,” he said.

He reiterated that the people of Ghana voted out the NPP because of its current state and not because of its values, indicating that the party can win the upcoming 2028 election if it returns to its values.

“I assure you, I believe this electorate, the Ghanaian electorate, I’m not talking of party electorate, has not rejected the value systems of our tradition,” he said.
