Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has opened up about how his footballing career panned out and the year he enjoyed playing the most.

He stated that despite having a sterling career with top European clubs and the national team, the year he really fared the best was 2010.

Gyan reminisced about the Black Stars’ exploits at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the team made it to the quarter-finals for the first time but failed to progress due to a missed penalty.

Speaking in an interview with 3Xtra TV, the former Sunderland player recounted how some Black Stars players used to conduct themselves while in camp.

“2010 was a special year for me in my career. Everything worked. In the 2010 Black Stars squad, the funniest was Kwadwo Asamoah, and I was the one who always reported late. Richard Kingston always reported on time and was mostly found praying,” he said.

Gyan led the Black Stars in the 2010 World Cup after scoring some crucial goals but failed to convert a penalty that could have qualified the team for the semi-finals.

The Black Stars legend announced his retirement from active football on June 20, 2024, at the age of 37.
