NORTHSHORE Apparel GH Ltd, Ghana’s first regenerative apparel manufacturer, is set to train over 2,000 voluntary pre-hire operators at its Savelugu facility to equip them with market-ready skills for potential permanent employment.

The trainees, selected for meeting the company’s operational standards, are part of Northshore’s effort to develop Northern Ghana’s first purpose-built apparel manufacturing hub.

Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Mohammed Nurudeen Mohammed, told the press during a visit by the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, that the initiative aims to prepare trainees for the market while creating skilled, and dignified jobs in the region.

To scale the programme, Northshore has partnered with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the National Youth Authority (NYA) to support 1,000 beneficiaries.

The facility specialises in both knitted and woven garments, including T-shirts, polos, hoodies, children’s wear, sportswear, underwear, leggings, and trousers.

Alhaji Mohammed explained that the investment addresses chronic unemployment, reduces internal migration to the south, and helps curb unsafe migration by providing local opportunities. The project also connects regional ecological zones to global supply chains, boosting trade and export growth.

The company’s growth is backed by Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM), the Investing for Employment (IFE) facility of KfW Development Bank, and equity from the project promoters. “This blended finance model mobilises mission-aligned capital to accelerate industrial transformation and export competitiveness,” Alhaji Mohammed noted.

Phase 1 of the facility is about 95 per cent complete, featuring 150 sewing lines, 4,000 m² cutting and design facilities, raw material warehouses, a dining facility, solar power installation, on-site clinic and crèche, locker rooms, bio-digester for waste management, and centralised administration with a fabric library and laboratory.

The CEO highlighted that Northshore’s approach builds resilience, accelerates skills transfer, and catalyses inclusive economic growth.

The minister commended the facility, saying it aligns with government efforts to create youth jobs and pledged continued support to sustain and grow the venture.
