Two policemen and one civilian have been killed in separate attacks by unknown gunmen in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

George Rockson and Isaac kofi, both constables in Ghana Police Service not in uniform, were shot and killed by the assailants at Poyamirea, while travelling from Bongo to Binduri on their private motorbike, in the afternoon of Sunday.

The attackers bolted with the motorbike of the policemen after carrying out the heinous act.

The civilian identified as Salifu Majeed, believed to be in his late 20s, was shot dead and his motorbike set ablaze at Nafkologa, a suburb of Binduri, the same day.

A source close to the Bawku Divisional Police Command, stated that the police and security personnel in Bawku and Binduri were leaving in fear as they had become the target of civilian attacks in Bawku lately.

Meanwhile, a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Ak

rofi, copied the Ghanaian Times, confirmed the incident, saying the Ghana Police Service were on a manhunt to identify and arrest the robbers who shot the two policemen at Poyamirea.

The police expressed its condolences to the bereaved family, and assured the public that, “We would like to assure the general public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be arrested and brought to face justice, and we will surely get them”.

Following Sunday’s incident, Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in a statement, banned the movement of motorbikes and tricycles in Binduri, and also persons from wearing smocks and carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons.

The ministry has reviewed the curfew hours imposed on the area from 6 pm to 6 am, with immediate effect.
