Eighteen-year-old amateur golfer, Mozley Boakye Yiadom surmounted his fears and overcame some late nerves to win the Captain One Golf Society’s Eight Major Championship which ended at the Obuasi Golf Club on Sunday.

The young Royal Golf Club prodigy was a delight to watch as he grew in confidence over the two-day competition (Kumasi and Obuasi) to clinch the ultimate trophy, cash voucher and other attractive prizes.

He recorded 134 points over the two days ahead of second-placed Stephen Dapaah who had 140 points and took home a silver medal and cash voucher for his efforts.

Prince Adukwa settled for the third position with an impressive 146 points to closely finish ahead of the defending champion Kwabena Poku who came fourth.

There were winners for both Day One of the competition at the Royal Golf Club as well as Day Two which came off at the Obuasi Golf Club.

Stephen Dapaah recorded the best score for day one while Richard Amponsah took home the Longest Drive prize with the Closest to the Pin and the Seniors winner went to Kofi Akyene and Seth Bekoe Apeadu respectively.

Day two was won by the ultimate winner, Boakye Yiadom with Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive going to Richard Amponsah and Samira Kangoute in that order while Philip Andon won the Senior’s prize.

For the Junior Category, fast-rising female golfer Ayisha Aminu came tops while Jennifer Satura came second with a decent performance.

The Champions of Champions competition was won by the 2024 winner, Kwabena Poku.

Ahead of the golf competition on Saturday and Sunday, was the newly-introduced footgolf on Friday which was won by Pius Ayeh Appiah with 43 net scores while Nana Adu Gyamfi Adjem came second also with 43 points.

The ultimate winner, young Boakye Yiadom expressed appreciation to organisers and the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu for his support which was crucial in his exploits.

Boakye Yiadom who has been playing golf since five, also extended appreciation to organisers, the Captain One Golf Society for providing a level playing field for all golfers to compete and win a trophy.

“I was nervous at the beginning but as I continued to play, I gained confidence and recorded some great scores to win the trophy,” he stated.

“I am very proud and urge other young golfers or talented people to go all out and become the best in their chosen disciplines,” he stated.

President of the Captain One Golf Society, Mr Pius Ayeh Appiah praised the young golfer as an emerging winner among some of the best golfers in the country and beyond.

“It is exciting to see the young ones step up since that has been the intention. It is important to groom young ones to step into the shoes of the current professional golfers,” he stated.

He expressed appreciation to all sponsors, the hosts, the Royal Golf Club and the Obuasi Golf Club for their support while urging other corporate entities to come on board for the next competition.

“We had some international golfers in this year’s competition and we are working hard to make it an international event from next year,” he stated.
