Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim recorded one of the worst statistical runs as Manchester United manager during his stint with the club.
The former Sporting Lisbon coach oversaw 63 games, in which he won 25, drew 15, and lost 23 — a disappointing return considering his profile.
In terms of goal scoring, his side netted 122 goals but conceded 111, resulting in a win rate of 39.7%.
Ruben Amorim sacked as Manchester United manager
Among ever‑present Premier League sides since Amorim’s first game, only three clubs collected fewer points than Manchester United’s 58: Tottenham (46), West Ham (45), and Wolves (39).
Under Amorim, United conceded the fourth‑most goals in the Premier League with 72. Only West Ham (84), Wolves (81), and Brighton (70) shipped more.
When taking all competitions into account in the Premier League era, only Ralf Rangnick (former United coach) has a lower win ratio than Amorim, although there is little in it – 37.9% compared with 38.1%.
In 45 of Amorim’s 47 Premier League games, he deployed a three‑man defence, a decision widely questioned by fans and pundits as a factor in the poor performances.
Following a tense relationship with the club’s board, coupled with disappointing results, Manchester United released an official statement on January 5, 2025, announcing his dismissal.
The decision came after Amorim met with Director of Football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada.
Darren Fletcher, who previously served as an under‑18 coach at Manchester United, has since been appointed as the new manager of the English side.
