The 31st Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association has extended the term limit of the president of the Ghana Football Association from two to three terms.

Congress also voted to accept the proposal for a second Vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who will be a woman.

Out of the 124 members of Congress which includes GFA president Kurt Okraku, 114 members voted in favor of the motion to extend the term limit of the leader of the association from two to three.

6 people voted against the motion to extend the term limits of the GFA president stressing on the fact that two terms of 4 years each is enough for one to implement his ideas to develop the game while 3 members abstained from the vote.

This new development of three terms for the president of the GFA now bring GFA’s governance structure in line with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

BREAKING: GFA Congress approves extension of presidential term limit to three terms

Meanwhile, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has revealed that Kurt Okraku is not thinking about third term at the moment.

“We can extend it beyond two terms. Then he will be in a position to say whether or not he will run again. So it is not about Kurt. Unfortunately, the commentaries over the period have always focused on Kurt Okraku. FIFA governance believes it is a good step, but they do not have the power to enforce it.”

“Go back to your Congress. If Congress says yes, then you can amend your statutes and extend it beyond two terms to three. If, after 2027, the current president, having gone through this process, wants to run again, it will be permitted by law. But as we speak, it is not even permitted by law, let alone for him to be thinking about running again,” he told GhanaWeb in an interview.
